The following pictures show the mean grades for the 2 computer based summative assessments and the final examination for the year the formative assessment was introduced 2004/05 and two years prior. The pictures also show for the same period, the change in the distribution of grades for the computer based tests (the grades are the average of the first and second computer assessment) and the final examination. The letter grades comprise:F is a non compensateable fail, MP is a compensateable fail, D- is the worst pass grade. A grades are first class, B grades are 2:1 level, C grades are 2:2 level, D grades are 3rd class level. The letter grade is based on a non-linear numerical score which runs from zero to 24. A fail grade is awarded for numerical scores between 0 and 5.99. A fail MP grade is awarded for numerical scores between 6 and 9.45. A D- is awarded from 9.5 to 10.45 etc.
